    Kato Hoops, 2019
Residency at Cyrpus College of Art.

My final outcome of this residency, Kato hoops was a representation of each moment in time in Kato. My work investigates one historical time zone and corresponds that to another, it was important to me that the work was woven together, reflecting how I was experiencing this historical place in our contemporary time.

Kato Hoops are knited or woven hoops representing a period in time when this area of Cyprus was colonised.

    Roman period-30BCE-330CE

    Early Christian period 330-650 CE

    Frankish period 1191-1489

    Ottoman period 1571-1878

    Contemporary

Each Hoop is larger than the first and link together to resemble a portal through time. The first hoop is more primitive than the last but in the end the opposite was created due to the intricate details when weaving natural resources such as flax leaves. Ironically the  contemporary hoop was the largest but the most fragile.
